Charles Houston Bar Association responds to the needs of Haitians affected by the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake that shook Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, on January 12th.  Support is needed for the organizations on the ground, both to provide immediate relief and also for long term recovery.  To that end CHBA will be co-hosting a happy hour fundraiser and collecting donations and tending bar at the popular Jack London Square Restaurant – Everett & Jones Friday, February 5, 2010 from 5:30-8:30 P.M.  Everett & Jones will donate sampler selections from its menu.

For this cause, a variety of donation levels are suggested; no amount being too small.  Proceeds from this event will go to Partners in Health and UNICEF.  CHBA will accept on behalf of PIH andUNICEF, all donations received at the door as well as money donated in a tip jar at the bar.  In addition to CHBA Board members bartending, “Surprise” Bartenders will also wait on guests and attendees.

So come on out and have some fun for a good cause!!!!

Partners In Health PIH has been on the ground in Haiti since 1985. Its mission and principles strongly align with this association and, we endorse its approach to public health, poverty alleviation, and strengthening communities. Founded by Harvard physician Dr. Paul Farmer, its facilities are strategically placed two hours outside of Port-au-Prince and will accommodate patients fleeing the city. Your support will help quickly procure emergency medical supplies, basic living necessities, and transportation and logistics support for the tens of thousands of people that will be seeking care at mobile field hospitals in the capital city. Partners in Health brings the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need and works to alleviate the crushing economic and social burdens of poverty that exacerbate disease. By partnering with communities to combat disease and poverty, it cares for its patients, gets at the root causes of disease in their communities, and shares lessons learned around the world.  The work of PIH will continue throughout this tragedy.  Currently there are over one hundred PIH volunteers creating medical teams which are addressing the immediate medical needs of the people of Haiti.

UNICEF is the driving force that helps build a world where the rights of every child are realized. It has the global authority to influence decision-makers, and the variety of partners at grassroots level to turn the most innovative ideas into reality.  It’s what makes this organization  unique among world organizations, and unique among those working with the young.

Nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress.  UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path.  Together, we can advance the cause of humanity.

So please join us.
